Common pallet sizes

The most common pallet sizes are listed below, for further details of the pallets and where they are commonly used click the drop downs beside the sizes. It is best to choose a pallet commonly used in the countries you are transporting through and to as their machinery to off and on load pallets will work with your pallet. If your goods going through Europe it may need to be 800mm wide max. CP pallets should be used for liquids, ADR and dangerous goods as they have an overlap which will prevent leakage on-route and winged edges allow your pallet to be shrink wrapped easily.

There is three standard shipping container sizes. The containers total weight of cargo that can be loaded in the containers (payload capacity) and internal area are below.

  • 20ft internal area 5.9mx2.35mx2.39m payload capacity 25,000kg

  • 40ft internal area 12.03mx2.4mx2.39m payload capacity 27,600kg

  • 40ft HC internal area 12.03mx2.35mx2.70m payload capacity 28,600kg

It is important to make sure your load is evenly distributed to ensure it is balanced and your container does not topple or buckle.
